November 28, 2009-
Cleveland Speedway- Having engine problems Josh finished 23rd.
November 21, 2009- North Alabama Speedway- Josh finished 18th.
November 6 & 7, 2009- The Putnam Race Team traveled to Duck River
Speedway in Wheel, TN for two nights of racing. Currently second in the
SRRS points standings, Josh was intent on closing the gap between him and
first place. On Friday night, out of 41 entries, Josh qualified in with
the fastest lap time in his group. This would successfully secure a second
row inside starting position for the 40 lap Hastings-Smith Memorial
feature. On lap 31, Josh would go low in turns 1 & 2 in an attempt to pass
Corey Posey for the 5th place spot and spin hitting a concrete culvert.
The damage from the culvert would send Josh to the pits for the night. He
would still record a 17th place finish.
November 7, 2009- On Saturday night, 35 Super Late Models would
enter the annual SRRS sanctioned PePe LePugh Memorial 40 lap event. Josh
would again record the fastest lap time for his group and the second
fastest overall. During intermission, several items were auctioned to the
fans with the proceeds going to help Donald Davis' daughter. Josh donated
a two lap ride in his race car to a child under the age of 10. Two lucky
kids actually got to take turns and go for a spin on the track. They both
were grinning from ear to ear when they returned. See pic's here. Starting
the 40 lap feature on outside pole, Josh would give the high side a try.
He would slip several positions as the track locked down to a one groove
black ice track. Josh would settle in the bottom for a sixth place finish.
October 29, 2009- Green Valley Speedway- The Putnam Race Team
traveled to Green Valley Speedway for the SRRS "Road To Dega" 40 lap race.
In a prelude to Talladega weekend, this race would draw 51 entries. Josh
would draw a qualifying position in the 4th group out of 5 groups of cars.
Qualifying 2nd fastest out of his group and 6th fastest over all would
secure him a 1st row outside starting position in his heat race. Josh led
the heat race all the way to the checkered flag which would earn him a 2nd
row outside starting position in the feature race. In a very impressive
run with top drivers such as Ray Cook, Shane Clanton, Clint Smith and
others, Josh would move into third place right behind Shane Clanton.
Several laps later, Tony Knowles would take the third place position from
him. Clint Smith would make a dash beating Josh at the flag stand by less
than half a car length. Josh earned a 5th place finish!
October 3, 2009- Clarksville Speedway- The second night of the SRRS
"Racing across Tennessee" racing at Clarksville Speedway. It looked like
the start of a good night when Josh qualified with the fastest lap time in
his group. Josh would start the feature race second row inside. He had a
very good run going in the top five when the 01 car of Tony Morris plowed
into Josh's right rear quarter panel causing Josh to do a 180 spin on the
track. Josh's car never stopped and only lost a couple of positions but
the flagwoman threw the caution flag anyway. They would then put Josh in
the rear of the field which didn't set too well with him. He would retire
for the rest of the race. He would be credited with a 17th place finish.
October 2, 2009- Boyd's Speedway- SRRS "Racing across Tennessee".
Two nights of racing at Boyd's Speedway and Clarksville Speedway. Friday
night at Boyd's Josh didn't qualify into the feature and had to run in his
groups heat race. Finishing the heat race in third place would earn him an
18th place starting position for the feature. Josh would take the
checkered flag in 14th place.
September 27, 2009- Columbus Speedway- Starting the 100 lap feature
somewhere toward the back of the field of 26 cars, Josh managed to race
his way to a 16th place finish.
September 26, 2009- Columbus Speedway- B-Mains and Last Chance
Dash. Josh wins the B-main in his group and secures a 17th place starting
position in the feature. Rain delayed the racing until tomorrow.
September 25, 2009- Columbus Speedway- Qualifying for the Magnolia
State 100. Josh didn't qualify well enough to earn a starting position for
the 100 lap feature and will have to run a B-main to try and secure a
starting spot.
September 12, 2009- Camden Speedway- Finished the feature in 5th
place.
September 6, 2009- North Alabama Speedway- Josh and the Putnam Race
Team would haul to NAS for the Bama Super Series 50 lap race. Qualifying 2
fastest out of his group, Josh would earn a starting position in the
feature. Just a few laps into the main event, Josh would be running a
strong third place position when something happened to the racecar. This
would cause Josh to cut the race short. He was credited with a 19th place
finish.
September 5, 2009- Duck River Speedway- The crew traveled to Duck
River Speedway in Wheel, TN, for the SRRS Sloe Moe 50 lap race. Josh
qualified second fastest out of his group and third fastest overall to
secure a starting position in the feature race. Josh would start the
feature third row inside. Josh would finish in 20th place.
August 29, 2009- Thunderhill Raceway- The team traveled to
Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN. In qualifying, Josh sets quick
time. Starting inside pole in the feature, Josh quickly took the lead. Ray
McElhiney, in his #20 car, would challenge Josh several times for the
lead. It wasn't long before Josh pulled away from him and the rest of the
field. Josh would lead every lap to take the checkered flag!
August 15, 2009- Duck River Speedway- Josh pulled off before the
end of the race.
August 14, 2009- North Alabama Speedway, Tuscumbia, AL- Josh
finished in 5th place with a broken control arm and shock.
August 8, 2009- Cleveland Speedway, Cleveland, TN- SRRS Josh
finished in 12th place.
August 7, 2009- Boyd's Speedway, Ringgold, GA- SRRS Josh finished
in 7th place.
July 25, 2009- Thunderhill Raceway, Etheridge, TN- The crew started
bright and early this morning working on the racecar to try and determine
what had caused the car to shut down last night. Fixing that and a few
other problems, the team traveled to Thunderhill Raceway. Josh set fast
time overall to claim the pole starting position in the feature. Josh
started the feature outside pole and with official giving the cars zero
laps to warm up their tires, the flagman dropped the green flag. Going in
to turn one on the high side, Josh got into a rut which caused the car to
slip right on off of the track. Even though it was a complete restart of
the race, under a new rule that the track implemented this season, Josh
was put on the rear of the pack. Starting in 14th position, in a rare
caution free 25 laps, Josh made his way back to finish in 5th place. Great
job Josh!
July 24, 2009- North Alabama Speedway, Tuscumbia, AL- Bama Super
Series Round #7. With the weekend off from following the SRRS races, the
Putnam/Palmer Race Team took the "Go Nanny" car to North Alabama Speedway
for another round of the Bama Super Series. With 24 Super Late Models on
hand, Josh would qualify into a secure 3rd row inside starting position in
the 40 lap feature. During a caution just a couple of laps into the
feature, Josh's racecar would lose all power. This would put an end to the
race for tonight. Josh was still credited with a 21st place finish.
July 18, 2009- Tennessee National Speedway, Hohenwald, TN- The
Southern Regional Racing Series helped celebrate the grand opening of the
new Tennessee National Speedway, formerly known as Checkered Flag
Speedway. A bad call on the set up for qualifying would cause Josh not to
lock in to the feature. He would finish second in his group's heat race
securing an 18th place start in the feature. Another bad call on what
tires to run for the feature would hurt Josh. But he did manage to advance
to 12th place which is where he finished. Josh still remains second in the
SRRS points standings.
July 17, 2009- North Alabama Speedway, Tuscumbia, AL- The Team
decided at last minute not to go to the practice at Tennessee National
Raceway on Friday not and to take the new car to North Alabama Speedway.
Josh takes the Putnam/Palmer, Valley Air Supply, Bob Pierce chassis to
Victory Lane and his first win in the new racecar! Congrats to Josh and
the Team.
July 11, 2009- Duck river Speedway, Wheel, TN- Another exciting
race at Ducktona! The Putnam/Palmer Race Team traveled to Wheel, TN to
compete in the Southern Regional Racing Series race. Josh was looking to
regain the 1st place position in the series points. He qualified with the
fastest time in his group which earned him a second row inside start in
the 40 lap feature. The SRRS had made the decision to implement the
"Delaware Double File" on all restarts. This would begin with tonight's
race. On the first couple of starts of the race, Anthony Burroughs would
take the lead but cautions would cause restarts. Shortly, Josh would take
the lead only to have many more cautions and double file restarts. Finally
the race got under way with Josh in the lead. He would stay in the lead
until about lap 32 when on the front straight the #16 of Daniel Miller
would catch the right rear quarter of Josh's car turning him into the
wall. The damage would put an end to what would have been Josh's 2nd SRRS
win. Josh would still be credited with a 12th place finish.
July 10, 2009- North Alabama Speedway, Tuscumbia, AL- Boy, it was
an exciting night as the Big Dogs rolled in for the "Heart of Dixie 40"
race with the Lucas Oil Dirt Series! 35 Super Late Models registered in.
These were divided into groups for qualifying, heats and B-Mains to try
and earn a starting position in the 40 lap feature. In Josh's 10 lap heat,
a crash in front of him left him no place to go and he ended up spinning
to keep from hitting them head on. Because he stopped on the track, he
would have to join the other two involved and go to the rear on the
restart. With only a couple of laps left, Josh didn't have time to gain
enough positions to earn a start in the feature. Suffering some minor
sheet metal damage from the crash, the crew quickly patched the car up and
it was off to run the B-Main. Starting in the rear of the 12 lap B-Main,
Josh had the grandstands on their feet as he steadily moved toward the
front. He finished in 2nd place earning a back of the pack starting
position in the feature. With traffic in front of him slowing him down,
Josh was not be able to move forward very quickly. He did advance to 17th.
He would have finished there but in a last lap attempt to pass two side by
side cars in turn 3-4 he would get into the loose stuff on top and slip
off of the top of the race track. He was credited with a 20th place
finish. Great job running with the Big Boys Josh!
July 4, 2009- Thunderhill Raceway, Etheridge, TN- Rain out before
features.
July 3, 2009- North Alabama Speedway, Tuscumbia, AL- The Team
traveled to NAS to debut the brand new look and the brand new Bob Pierce
Chassis Super Late Model racecar. First time on a track with this brand
new racecar and Josh earned a 4th place finish in the feature race.
May 30, 2009- Talladega Short Track, Talladega, AL- With the
racecar still suffering from damage from last night's race at Green Valley
Speedway, Josh would take a provisional start for the feature. He finished
the feature in 22nd place.
May 29, 2009- Green Valley, Glencoe, AL- 42 Super Late Model
registered in. Making contact with the wall during qualifying caused some
right rear chassis damage but Josh still secured a 4th row inside starting
position for the feature race. Josh would finish the feature in 14th
place.
May 24, 2009- Duck river Speedway, Wheel, TN- Tonight's racing
would carry over from last night and would be the features that Mother
Nature would not let be finished the night before. Josh had secured a 5th
row inside start in the 40 lap feature event. Coming through turn 4 for
the green flag, every one fired to start the race when all of a sudden the
car(s) in front of Josh checked up. Josh locked the brakes and had all but
missed the rear of the #10 car of Jay Brinkley in front of him when the
cars behind Josh shoved him into the #10 car. Josh's car suffered
extensive front damage. Even with the nose of the car at least a foot off
of the ground and limited steering capabilities, Josh still managed to
pilot the car to a sixth place finish.
May 23, 2009- Duck river Speedway, Wheel, TN- Josh and the crew
travelled to Wheel, TN to compete in a pair of Southern Regional Racing
Series 40 lap events. On night one of the event, Josh would qualify fourth
fastest overall out of 40 Super Late Model entries. Even with this
qualifying time, Josh would not lock into the feature out of his group of
cars. Josh would go on to win his B-Main securing him a starting position
in the feature race. After all B-Mains were run and the cars were locked
into the feature race, the rain would start once again. This time putting
an end to the racing for that night. "Ducktona" and SRRS officials decided
to cancel the race scheduled for Sunday night and to run all features in
it's place.
May 15, 2009- North Alabama Speedway, Tuscumbia, AL- Out of 22
entries in the Bama Super Series, Josh qualified 7th fastest out of his
group. Since they only took the top 4 qualifiers in each group, Josh had
to run a b-main to get a starting position in the feature. Winning his
b-main secured him a mid pack start in the 40 lap feature race. Josh had
moved up several positions when he found himself behind the #10 of Jay
Brinkley. Several times Josh had to get into the brakes because the #10
came down on him as he tried to pass. As they were getting into lapped
traffic, Josh saw another opportunity to pass the #10. Josh had all but
cleared him when the #10 once again came down on him in what looked like
an attempt to turn Josh into the wall. Josh managed to hold his line. When
Josh did not spin out, the #10 then dropped to the inside going into turns
1 and 2 and rammed Josh in the right rear causing left side damage and a
flat tire on Josh's car. The damage would put an end to to the race for
the #212 car.
May 9, 2009- Moulton Speedway Moulton, AL- Rained Out.
May 8, 2009- North Alabama Speedway Tuscumbia, AL- After the
SRRS/TTDCS race was cancelled due to rain, the crew left there and headed
home. On the way, the crew decided to head for NAS since it had not rained
them out. The Bama Super Series is scheduled there the next weekend, and
it would be a good chance to "test and tune" for it. Josh set the second
fastest time just behind the 121 of Anthony Burroughs. Starting the
feature on the outside pole, a slight miscalculation on the set up for the
feature caused Josh to slip back several spots. He still finished the
feature in a solid 5th place position.
May 8, 2009- Crossville Raceway Crossville, TN- Rained Out
May 1, 2009- Boyd's Speedway Ringgold, GA- Rained Out
April 25, 2009- Thunderhill Raceway- Josh set quick time in his
group and 2nd fastest overall securing himself the outside pole starting
position in the SRRS 40 lap feature race. On the start of the race, pole
sitter Tony Knowles jumped out front only to have a caution cause a
complete restart. This time around Josh was the one to take the lead. And
lead it he did, leading every one of the 40 laps right to the checkered
flag! This was Josh's first ever Southern Regional Racing Series feature
win! Josh is now holding first place in the SRRS points. WTG Josh!
April 24, 2009- North Alabama Speedway- Josh competed in the SRRS
race at North Alabama Speedway tonight. Qualifying 3rd fastest in his
group earned him a ninth place starting position in the 40 lap feature.
Josh moved up to sixth place pretty quickly but the one groove track kept
it to a mostly no-passing race. Josh finished in the sixth position.
April 18, 2009- Mountain Speedway- On the second night of the
SRRS/TTDCS "Clash of Two Series", Josh and the crew traveled to Mountain
Speedway in Maryville, TN. 37 Super Late Model cars with drivers such as
Randy Weaver, Scott Bloomquist, Jimmy Owens, Tony Morris, Vic Hill and
more were on hand for the event. Josh qualified with a time of 18.43 which
would earn him a 6th place starting position in his group's b-main. He
finished the b-main in third place which secured him a mid-pack starting
position in the feature race. On the start of the race, one of the cars in
front of Josh slid high in turn one. Bouncing off the wall, the car caught
Josh in the right rear quarter panel tearing the most of the rear spoiler
off of Josh's car. No one told Josh that most of his spoiler was missing
and when he set up in turn 1 on the restart, the car started a 4-wheel
slide into the concrete wall. The damage would put an end to the race for
the #212 car.
April 17, 2009- Wartburg Speedway- The 212 Putnam Race Team
traveled to Wartburg Speedway in Wartburg Tennessee for the Southern
Regional Racing Series/Tennessee Thunder DirtCar Series "Clash of Two
Series" races. Out of a field of 27 top Super Late Model drivers from two
different series, Josh qualified 4th fastest out of his group. Only the
top 3 were transferred to the 40 lap feature race. Josh won his B-Main
securing a 10th place starting position in the feature. In just 3 laps,
Josh had moved up to 7th. Carefully avoiding several accidents that
brought out the yellow flag, Josh powered the Don Palmer/ABC Cash Register
car toward the front. Josh finished the race with an impressive 5th place.
Congrats to Josh on your great driving and finish! Unofficially, this
places Josh in a two way tie with Jay Brinkley for the SRRS Points lead.
Saturday April 11, 2009- Rebel Challenge Columbus MS- On the second
night of racing for the Rebel Challenge, 45 of the top Super Late Model
showed up to compete for the $10,000.00 to win 50 lap feature race. Broken
down into 4 groups for qualifying, Josh qualified with the second fastest
time in group number 3 securing him starting position in the main event.
During the hot lap session prior to the feature, the engine blew putting
an end to what started as a great run for Josh.
Friday April 10, 2009- Rebel Challenge, Columbus MS- The Putnam
Race Team traveled to Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS to compete in
Brown Engineering 7th Annual Rebel Challenge. With 44 of the top Super
Late Model drivers in attendance, a wrong call on tires kept Josh from
making the feature race.
Saturday April 4, 2009- Josh Putnam and the #212 Putnam Race Team
traveled to Duck River Speedway in Wheel, TN to participate in the
Southern Regional Racing Series Ductona 40 lap feature race. The SRRS
series season opener drew some of the top Super Late Model drivers. Out of
a field of 32 race cars, Josh set the quick time over all entries locking
him in to the feature. Starting inside pole, Josh took the lead at the
drop of the green flag. Although several cautions caused restarts of the
race, Josh maintained the lead until around lap 35 when another caution
flag was thrown. On the restart of the race, Josh once again took the
lead. A lap or so later, in what looked like a well practiced maneuver on
his home track, the #56 race car banked off of the wall in turn two and
squeezed past Josh to take the lead from him. Congratulations Josh on a
very impressive second place finish! You put on a great show for us fans!
On the start of the race, one of the cars in

the #212 car.
Only the

Tentative plans for Josh and the Putnam Race Team are for them to travel
