IT'S A FAMILY TRADITION
Racing is in Josh's blood. Literally! He comes from a long line of racers, not just on one side of his family but both. He is a third generation dirt track racer. Josh's dad, Curtis Putnam, drove the original number 212 racecar from 1971-1990. Josh's grandad, Billy Putnam, drove the #12 car back in the 1950's, 60's and early 70's. Josh's maternal grandfather, Glenn England (Pap), also raced. Pap was the original driver of the number 201. He also drove under the number 99. Pap also was the original flagman for North Alabama Speedway. He threw the first flag ever thrown at NAS. He continued as flagman for many years while the track was under the ownership of Sam Bates. Josh continues to carry on the family tradition with the help of his family and a few close friends. Everyone plays a very important role in Josh's racing career.
Curtis (shhh, don't tell him, but we call him the grumpy ol man) is the head crew chief and set up man. He is as good as they come at setting up a racecar. He can watch a racecar and pretty well know what it is doing. That, along with Josh being able to tell him what is going on with the car, lets him know what to do to the car to make it handle. Curtis also designs and builds Late Model bodies. Josh has been helping his daddy do this since he was big enough to walk.
